Orangutan, sun bear and an astonishing variety of birds and other wildlife are the highlights when visiting Sepilok near Sandakan. The Rainforest Discovery Centre at Sepilok offers a unique opportunity to observe birds and primates in their natural habitat. Over 600m of canopy walkways and many hiking trails allow the vistor to explore the rainforest from the ground to the very top. The impressive hornbill tower at the end of the canopy walkway with its 360° panoramic view is ideal to see birds on top of the trees. A big lake and several small streams provide plenty of water to the area and are home to kingfisher and oriental darter. After the Rainforest Discovery Centre we continued to the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre. Sun bears are the smallest bears in the world and are only found in Southeast Asia. The facility includes large forest enclosures to provide a natural environment suited to the needs and welfare of the sun bears and facilitate their rehabilitation back into the wild. Welcome to our birding and wildlife safari to Sepilok near Sandakan in Borneo (Malaysia) in July 2024. We stayed two nights at the wonderful My Nature Lodge. The large garden and direct access to the rain forest makes this lodge an ideal location for bird watching and to visit all the other attractions of Sepilok.
