Cavalier Puppy Livestream: Playtime & Brunch, 4-week Weight Checks, Deworming!

Good morning, friends and families! We hope you are doing well on this bright Thursday morning! We have a busy day today! The puppies did a fantastic job coming out of their pen to eat and play on the floor alongside their potty tray yesterday. There was only one accident! We are going to do the same thing again today, but we also need to get their weights and give their 4-week deworming dose. We like to bring them out for short periods of time to help prepare them for life as a pet. We'll point out these changes as the pups evolve through them. These first few days outside the pen, we bring them out to eat puppy mash in a small, safe area with Mom nearby. We don't keep them out for longer than 30 minutes at this age. Their beginning-of-stream play time evolves to include free reign (with our supervision, of course!) of the room with lots of toys, a snuffle mat, and a rotating social circle of friends. They get LOTS of practice playing and running around, then suddenly needing to find the potty tray. They are advancing themselves through potty training! They can be seen walking over to the tray themselves! We continue to place them in the potty tray with each other, because even though they are catching on, they need consistent reinforcement and reminders. Reinforcement and consistency are essential for successful potty training. Mom still potties them, but you will see us frequently remind them to take potty breaks in the pellets. The blanket we have lining the pool is waterproof and we use towels and small blankets to help collect accidents (which we frequently swap out). Drew and I are getting an ultrasound machine for our moms. Vets do not routinely ultrasound Moms unless there is a medical need. Having the ability to scan Mom during pregnancy would be invaluable.
