'Janani' - an ode to all mothers by Bangalore’s all-women’s collective by Metronome Station was released online on Mother's Day, May 10, 2020: • JANANI | A tribute to Mothers inside all o... The line up comprises Manasi Prasad - vocals, Shalini Mohan- bass guitar and rap, Priya Andrews-Drums, Sumana Chandrashekar - Ghatam and Padma Priya-keys. The song is a Carnatic-fusion-with-funk combo that speaks of the critical role the mother plays. It combines two traditional compositions in raga Reethi Gowla with rap to bridge the classical and contemporary. The name Metronome Station is an amalgam of Metronome (which keeps the tempo in music) and the Metro Station which is a congregating point for the city. Metronome Station is envisioned as a women's music collective that brings together different genres. Each artiste is well-established in their own genre, but this group allows them to come together and share ideas. The band hopes their initiative will inspire more women in music to come together and support each other. Metronome Station was birthed for and debuted at the Raintree Women's festival in November 2019 organized by author, and cultural and gender evangelist Sandhya Mendonca.
