White House says Trump administration is complying with court order to distribute SNAP benefits

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the Trump administration is distributing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits and the Agriculture Department is complying with court orders to use emergency funds to run the program. "The recipients of these SNAP benefits need to understand it’s going to take some time to receive this money," Leavitt said. Federal district courts ruled last week that the Department of Agriculture must use contingency funds to run SNAP and distribute benefits. A reporter asked Leavitt whether the administration was funding the program or violating the court orders, noting that President Donald Trump wrote in a social media post that the benefits would only be distributed when the government reopens.
