Born in Bucks County Pennsylvania in 1941, he had a remarkable career that stretched from the 1960s until his sudden death this week at his home in Oregon. In 2020 Hurley stopped by the Democracy Now studio. The initial plan was just for him to record a few songs. He ended up staying in the studio for over an hour for what turned out to be an impromptu concert and discussion about his life and music. He performed many of his most beloved songs including “Oh My Stars,” “Wildegeeses,” “Sweedeedee,” “Portland Water” and “Hog of the Forsaken.” Democracy Now! is an independent global news hour that airs on over 1,500 TV and radio stations Monday through Friday.
