THE BEGINNING Five years ago, 'cene Magazine was started in response to a growing creative movement in Kent. The problem was that there was no platform for the emerging talents to reach new audiences and express their skills. Our vision was to create a free magazine that would raise the profile of independent creators and connect them to a wider community. Key to this was to ensure that the printed magazine was of high quality both in terms of original journalism and production. We spend time uncovering new talent. We meet them and understand their stories. We take our own photographs, film our own interviews and create all of our own content for purpose. All to ensure that the reader engages with the content and also understands the value of what the creators were offering. Now, five years on, 'cene is a multi-award-winning, bi-monthly print magazine, and is recognised as a trusted platform for new and established creators. THE NEXT STEP Through the pandemic 'cene continued to support local businesses offering 150 free commercial spaces within three 'Special Editions' distributed digitally. However, the nature of the lockdowns meant that the printed publication was restricted and we were only able to produce 50% of the editions across a two-year period. With energy prices continuing to rise and the cost of production materials increasing dramatically, 'cene's is looking for new ways to continue offering a supportive platform. 'cene is determined to maintain the quality of its publication, and therefore has introduced a subscription opportunity for its dedicated readers to receive the magazine direct to their doors. There will still be free copies of 'cene Magazine available from our selected stockists to make sure we remain accessible to those that cannot afford a subscription.
