What we have here is one of the finest actual arcade racers ever to grace a console. This game was released for the PS2, PSP, XBOX, and PC. No matter which version you get, you will be getting a great "hair on fire" experience. The PS2 version is of course the weakest looking with some jaggies here and there, but the game screams at a blistering fast 60 frames per second with less than a handful of hiccups here and there. The game also supports progressive scan and native widescreen. When I first popped this game into my console years ago I couldn't believe that this game was running on my PS2. The graphics are absolutely gorgeous even to this day. The main gameplay mechanic is drifting. Trying to play this game without drifting will guarantee a quick game over. However unlike Ridge Racer's drifting mechanic, Outrun 2006's drifting is much more predictable and reliable. It is actually very satisfying to whip around turns at breakneck speeds. However this does not mean the game is just a cake walk. One bad crash like the one I had in this video can ruin the rest of the run. The one downside to this game is that it DOES NOT support any force feedback wheels which sucks. Not even the PC version supports force feedback. The Logitech Driving Force EX will work with this game since it does have a regular PlayStation plug, but the brake and accelerator pedals do not output analog in the game which means there's no progression to be able to accurately control your throttle or braking. So that's why I'm using the MC2 here. This game is the complete package. It's fast, it's beautiful, it controls extremely well, and it's very fun. If you're a fan of racing games you need to play this one.
