Understanding the Quality of Life of People Living with Mobility Disabilities in Haiti Monica Gonzalez-Bunster, MMSc ’16, works with the Walkabout Foundation, an organization that seeks to improve the lives of people with mobility disabilities by providing wheelchairs and rehabilitation in the developing world. In this talk, Monica will discuss her MMSc-GHD thesis work, which focused on understanding the quality of life of people living with mobility disabilities in Haiti. Monica conducted interviews to understand how having a wheelchair affected their lives and what other factors affected their well-being. Monica will also discuss her continuing work with the Walkabout Foundation. Monica Gonzalez-Bunster, MMSc ‘16 Director, Walkabout Foundation Monica Gonzalez-Bunster serves as Director of Walkabout Foundation and during her visits to many countries, she teaches physical and occupational therapists the different aspects of the "RoughRider" wheelchair: the assembly, the measurement, adjustment and fitting of each individual recipient to his or her wheelchair. She intends to develop the production and/or assembly of wheelchairs in resource-poor setting countries. Having visited Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Ghana, Malawi, Rwanda, Pakistan and Chile, she would like to return to these settings to implement community programs with access to primary care, and social services.
