Many of Subaru’s popular automatic transmissions rely on a torque converter clutch (TCC) to lock up the torque converter. The TCC helps with fuel efficiency while also decreasing engine RPMs in high gear, saving wear and tear, and preventing torque converter slip. A solenoid in the transmission valve body actuates the TCC, and over time, the solenoid can fail. Subaru does not sell the solenoid individually, so the only solution from the dealer is an expensive new valve body. Dorman’s OE FIX 926-408 torque converter lockup solenoid replaces only the failed component inside the valve body for specified vehicles.
