Are Decathlon Riverside Touring bikes actually any good? 10,000km of road-testing says it all

While hosting French round-the-world cyclists Diane & Simon (via WarmShowers), I noticed they'd crossed the whole of Europe on two touring bikes from ‪@RIVERSIDEADVENTURE‬, an in-house bike brand made and sold by the well-known global outdoor retailer ‪@decathlonfrance‬. Known for being cheap and cheerful, and selling some of the lowest-priced new touring bikes available today, the question was obvious: are Decathlon Riverside Touring bikes – in this case, a brand new 900 and a rebuilt second-hand 520 – actually durable, reliable and comfortable enough for a multi-year world tour? Here's their honest opinion after 10,000km of riding over 8 months on the road. They have no affiliation to Decathlon – aside from being French!
