How To Grow a Kiwi Tree or Vine From Seed, Days 0-24

First episode in my Kiwi series. Not a lot of info about growing them from seed so thought I'd give it a go. I'm going to keep this series going for as long as I can - wish me luck on growing them! I will try to list the biggest factors here so you can get off to a good start! 1) If sprouting from a store bought kiwi, be sure to use an organic kiwi fruit. The ones that are not organic tend to not reproduce very well and the seedlings may not perform well. 2) Kiwi seedlings need a lot of light when they first emerge. They are use to tropical and/or hotter climates so if you are growing them under a grow light, be sure they are close to it (within a foot at most) and get plenty of it - I had the lights on for 18 hours per day until they were well established. 3) Kiwis need a ton of water, but they need it to drain well too! Be sure the soil stays moist but it drains easily - which leads me to the final critical factor... 4) Most potting soils will work but BE SURE that it has a good mix of peat moss (retains moisture) and perlite (helps with drainage).
