Hard to believe, but it's been 10 years since the 2000 Subway Series was played in New York. On the night of October 21, 2000, the Yanks are hosting their crosstown rivals New York Mets at Yankee Stadium. To commemorate the occasion, the MTA decorated two subway trains with "Subway Series 2000" logos on each car. They also sported the Yankees and Mets logos on each car and the cars on the north and south end of the trains were "wrapped" in the colors of their respective teams. The 7 train having the Mets blue and orange and the R-142 having the Yankees pinstripes. The 7 line had an 11 car train of R-36s with an R33 single and on the 4 line, an R-142 seen here was used. There was also a train of R62s decorated with the Mets and the Yankees logos (seen in this video). The R-142 seen in this video was and is currently assigned to the 2 line. During this time, the R-142s were still being delivered and the 4 line was still running R 62s and Redbirds. The Subway Series R-142 train was making special announcements for the Subway Series. The train was scheduled to discharged passengers when it arrived at 161 St.,but continued in service to Woodlawn. At the 161 St. station, Gov. Pataki and other digniteries are seen heading to Yankee Stadium. The late Bob Sheppard can be heard announcing pitcher Al Leiter. With the opening of a new Yankee Stadium in 2009, the House That Ruth Built was demolished. The last game was played there on Sept. 21,2008. The site of the stadium is being readied for a park named Heritage Field. NOTE: The consist of the R142 Subway Series train was: (So.) 6320-19-18-17-16-11-12-13-14-6315 (No.)
