This is one of those early "portable" computers that really pushed the definition of portable. It had no batteries and weighed 20lbs, but at least it had a carry handle on top! The Compaq Portable III came out in 1987 and featured a 12MHz 286 CPU with 640KB of RAM. It originally cost $3,999USD, or over $11k in modern dollars! The display was a very cool gas-plasma model with great contrast and brightness. Big thanks to Ax-Man Surplus for hooking me up with this! You can find them at https://www.ax-man.com/ I used some of the following websites to help me get this working: https://ret.rocks/index.php/one-off-w... https://retrotechrestoration.com/1987... I found some old software for it on archive.org, including the setup disk images at: https://archive.org/details/CompaqPor... One thing that seems different with mine is that it requires 1.2MB disk images, not 360K or 720K as others have reported. The Gotek drive needs to be configured as a 1.44MB drive with 1.2MB images. I found that the updated Gotek with Flashfloppy firmware worked the best (https://www.ebay.com/itm/234259341532) The Wifi modem I used is from arcanebytes: https://www.arcanebyte.com/wifimodem-...
