Featured is an instructive chess game between Alexander Alekhine and Aron Nimzowitsch from San Remo 1930. Alekhine chooses the Bogoljubow variation in response to Nimzowitsch's French Winawer. The ensuing dark-squared bishop exchange allows Alekhine to establish a knight on black's weakest square, d6. Nimzowitsch, instead of challenging Alekhine's strong e5-pawn, plays on the queenside. Alekhine responds well with highly instructive queenside pawn moves that, in part, allow a strong bishop post on b5. This game, which sparked the term "Alekhine's Gun", has an aesthetic final position where Nimzowitsch essentially finds himself in zugzwang. #AlexanderAlekhine #AronNimzowitsch #FrenchDefense I'm a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8. The purpose of this channel is to share my knowledge of chess to help others improve their game. I enjoy continuing to improve my understanding of this great game, albeit slowly.
