Is water sitting in your gravel driveway? In this video, I tackle a 750-foot driveway in Indianapolis that had a major standing water issue right at the halfway point. The Solution: Instead of just filling holes, we performed a full driveway re-sloping. By adding topsoil and crushed limestone, we changed the grade to force water toward the woods rather than letting it pool on the gravel. What we did: Re-Sloping: Built up low spots and sloped the ground away from the drive. Bonus Drainage: Installed a 2'x20' ditch filled with river rock to help dissipate moisture faster. Surface Refinement: Finished the entire 750ft drive with a fresh layer of #8 crushed limestone to blend everything perfectly. Equipment Used: Vermeer 925 Mini Skid Steer with a power rake, leveler, front hoe, and bucket. Why we chose this method: While a pipe daylighting to a lower point is often ideal, the cost doesn't always make sense for every project. By building up the driveway height and correcting the pitch, we solved the core problem. The river rock trench was a cost-effective "extra" to ensure the area stays dry without the expense of a full piped system. This job was completed in just one day!
