Join me on this amazing adventure and discovery of an ancient Navajo native american turquoise mine site that still has beautiful veins of turquoise in the rock walls of the mine. Along the journey, I teach you how to rockhound for turquoise, the signs to look for when searching for outcroppings of turquoise in rocks, and how to navigate public lands to find amazing locations like this! I found this place while researching the old mining history of Arizona. It took a lot of work to get back to this remote location and there are old remnants of timbers, mining equipment, and artifacts from years past. This particular mountain was a native american dig site for turquoise. The mines were abandoned long ago until white pioneers eventually found the old tailings piles. The mining was resumed by Mr. Herget who pulled hundreds of pounds of gem quality turquoise from the old mines. Tiffany contracted the mines back in the 1930s to make fine jewelry for their New York storefronts. Now please do not ask me where this site is located. This area is claimed. However, being that it is on public lands, it is allowable to explore and adventure. You cannot take minerals from someone else's claim! #rockhounding #roughturquoise #turquoisemining #rockhoundingforturquoise #nativeamericanturquoise #arizonadesert #arizonahistory #abandonedmine #sidebyside #adventureamerica #wildwest #wildwesthistory
