Welcome to Archinest! In this video, we explore a stunning brutalist home in Paracas, Peru, designed by Riofrio Arquitectos. Located near the Paracas Natural Reserve, this 258-square-meter residence is built to withstand the region’s harsh desert climate while offering breathtaking views of the bay. To combat strong afternoon winds, the architects designed a solid concrete base that acts as a protective barrier, creating a private and sheltered interior garden. This lower level houses most of the living spaces, including a spacious social area, a living room with a double entrance, a kitchenette, and three bedrooms with private bathrooms. Above this base, a striking cube-like upper volume defines the home’s geometry. It contains the master bedroom with an open layout, a private bathroom, and panoramic sea views. This level acts as the crown of the structure, reinforcing its bold and minimalist aesthetic. The house’s material palette is inspired by the surrounding desert landscape, using exposed concrete, polished cement, and concrete blocks to emphasize a raw and natural look. Reclaimed wood is featured at the entrance and in the master bedroom window, adding warmth and contrast to the brutalist design. This home is a perfect example of modern desert architecture, blending functionality, climate adaptation, and aesthetic harmony. What do you think about this design? Let us know in the comments!
