I'm excited to finally get to try each and every one of the Meikle Toir Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Meikle Toir is GlenAllachie's heavily peated single malt scotch whisky. GlenAllachie traditionally makes an unpeated whisky. In 2017 Billy Walker bought the distillery and began to make changes like slower distillation times, longer fermentations and a brand new peated GlenAllachie spirit that first came of the stills in 2018. This Peated GlenAllachie earned it's very own identity marking it as distinctly different than other GlenAllachie whiskies. It was named Meikle Toir which is Scots Gaelic for "big pursuit." Today I will taste and rank each Meikle Toir release. Each of the Meikle Toir releases is 5 years old, non-chillfiltred, and is bottled with no added colour. The first 3 Meikle Toir releases are peated to 35 PPM, while the 4th takes thing up a notch at 71PPM. We will start with the Meikle Toir original 5 Year, bottled at 50%, which highlights the peated spirit with use of ex-bourbon casks among others. Then we will move onto the Meikle Toir The Chinquapin one, bottled at 48%, which highlights the use of Quercus Muehlenbergii to make virgin oak Chinquapin casks. We will tackle Meikle Toir The Sherry One after that, bottled again at 48%, which highlights the use of Oloroso and PX Sherry casks. We then face the beast that is Meikle Toir The Turbo, bottled at 50%, whcih highlight the use of Virgin oak and Oloroso Sherry casks as well as the heavily peated spirit that lies at the heart of the heart cut. This one takes those phenols up a notch at 71 PPM. We round everything out by also trying the very first peated GlenAllachie single malt scotch whisky. That would be the GlenAllachie Future Edition 4 Year Old Peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky. It's bottled at 60.2% is peated to around 50PPM. The Speyside is getting smoked in this peated lineup. Which Meikle Toir whisky will be my favourite? Could the even younger 4 year old Peated GlenAllachie be even better than this big pursuit? Let's find out! I hope you all enjoy the video.
