FISHER FOUNDATION ELEPHANT TRANSLOCATION

On the 9th May 2025, the Fisher Foundation expanded its conservation portfolio to include support for emergency wildlife translocations – critical interventions that move vulnerable species to safer and more sustainable habitats. Five elephants were successfully translocated from the Asante Sana Reserve, which was at capacity, to their new home at Longhill in the Eastern Cape where there is space for them to flourish. The team involved in this effort were highly experienced in their respective fields and included veterinarians, helicopter pilots specializing in game capture, and translocation experts. The initiative was generously funded by Daniel Asterita and family from the United Kingdom – testament to the Fisher Foundation’s authentic deliverables in their conservation efforts. These projects generate local employment in veterinary services, reserve management, transport and post-release monitoring.
