"If You Don't Know Me by Now" is a song written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, and recorded by the Philadelphia soul musical group Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes in 1972, reaching number 3 on the 100 Billboard that year. It was later recorded by Simply Red and reached number one on the 100 Billboard, year 1989. It is what is called a "power ballad", meaning a slow song but a lot of energy and drive. This song features the singer beefing with his lady about the state of their relationship. And what actually has him cheesed off is the fact that she doesn’t trust him. Indeed in his eyes, they’ve “been through” enough together for her to know that he wouldn’t cheat. So the way the situation reads now is that he’s extremely frustrated with her constantly accusing him of infidelity and over-interpreting his mood swings. In fact if she maintains such behavior, he’d rather just call the entire romance off as opposed to continuing. I recreated the original backing track and I sampled the original choir into the arrangement in order to lift the energy and the climax of the song.
