HC Lifts Ban On E-Gaming In Karnataka | StartUp Central

The Karnataka High Court has lifted the state’s ban on e-gaming, and thus provided a massive relief especially to skill-based gaming startups that had shut down operations in the state. The verdict has reversed the state’s move to criminalise even skill-based e-gaming like bridge and poker. So, the verdict will enable the likes of Dream11, Games 24x7, MPL etc to go live again in Karnataka. However, the Court has made it clear that this verdict will not come in the way of the legislature bringing in a new law against e-gaming as long as it’s in consonance with the Constitution. What does this mean? Can people in Karnataka start playing bridge, rummy, poker etc online now? Can the state government still ban e-gaming?
