Mappy is Namco's early arcade game, which achieved great success in Japan and very little success in the United States. Behind her cute characters is an amazingly strategic platform arcade game that requires a lot of planning and can become quite crazy. Mappy has been ported to a large number of home computers and consoles in Japan. The name of the mouse Mappi (Eng. Mappy) is taken from the Japanese word "mappo" - the contemptuous nickname of the policeman. The name of the cat boss Nyamco is taken from the word "nyanko" - the Japanese equivalent of "kitten" (in the American version renamed to Goro).
