I work in downtown Seattle in the software engineering field, so many of the items included are used with this career in mind. There are not a lot of items that one might see in a backpack tailored for a rural environment, however I still do carry certain emergency preparedness items that I feel are universal to both urban and rural kits. I feel that an EDC backpack should “compliment” ones personal EDC (aka, "the stuff you carry in your pockets") and not necessarily to provide 1-to-1 redundancy matching. For example, I carry a multi-tool as part of my EDC. Rather than include a second multi-tool in my EDC backpack, I’ve chosen to include other tools such as a multi-bit screwdriver, adjustable wrench and precision cutting blade. Another example is for illumination. Rather than include a larger flashlight in my backpack, which costs money and might not ever be used since I already EDC one, I have included illumination gear that compliments my flashlight (e.g., small lantern, magnetic work light). As always, this “version” of my EDC Backpack is a timestamp of what it looks like today. Tomorrow, I will probably have many a minor changes to it. I am in a constant and never ending search to create the perfect gear setup for “me”. It will never be achieved, as my needs and mindset are constantly shifting. I believe that your gear setup should constantly evolve over time, to avoid becoming stagnant or obsolete. “Be not afraid of going slowly; be afraid only of standing still.” ~Chinese Proverb In an effort to maximize the organization of the supplies in my EDC Backpack, I use specific color coordination for the various modules included in this bag. These colors were determined based on the results of a survey I conducted on YouTube called “The Color Of Prepping”. By labeling and color coordinating the various modules based on the majority of peoples most likely color association, I believe that this will aid someone to quickly find a particular item in the EDC Backpack by instinct during an emergency situation.
