*BEFORE THE CAT #13 Wält vo de Wettrenne* Another one of my early songs in Swiss German. The title could be translated as: “The World Of Competition and Races”. I wrote it after my decision not to become a journalist when my job as a traffic news reporter came to an end. That job, even though finished because of restructuring could have been my entry-ticket into the world of journalism. I decided not to follow up for the simple reason that I’m not the kind of guy who likes to put his nose into everything and to hassle people for information. My decison to turn my back at the world of competition and careers is reflected in the lyrics of this song. While trying to translate the lyrics I’ve noticed that the language I used is very idiomatic and hence hard to translate. I hope it's understandable. If not I hope you enjoy the melody and music of the song :-) English translation of the lyrics: I’ve walked down many a road Have stepped on many a dog shit I’ve already lied in a few tongues Have ridden, swum, flown I’ve been on the street since yesterday Not as a traffic news reporter I reached many a branch Many a branch broke underneath me Stole many a person’s time Some people stole mine I moved on, stood still In the world of races Many people are bound to fall The world of competition Many people can’t stand I’ve been the boss of a thousand island Told people where not to go But the islands were flooded And I’ve changed directions I used to live on ighways Mountain passes and border check-points Events and situations Stressed people and nervous hands Once in while somebody quits The world of races In the world of competition Everybody’s got the blues some time I met many a soul on my way Some were strong enough Others weren’t I prefer watching The world of races I’ve had enough of The world of competition
