Welcome to worship at Lawrence Park Community Church for Epiphany 5 during Black History Month. This service weaves together music from the choir and soloist, scripture, prayer, and reflection as we hear the prophetic call from Isaiah 58:1–12 to “loose the chains of injustice” and become repairers of broken walls. During Children’s Time, we share the story of Viola Desmond and her legacy in Canada’s ongoing journey toward justice and equality. The music of the morning includes spirituals and hymns that echo the theme of light, compassion, and faithful action. Rev. Stephen Milton’s sermon, “Sermon by Request: Church in the U.S., Europe and Canada,” explores how faith is changing across cultures and what it means to be a church that keeps God’s light alive in a secular age.
