@krcrnews - Veterans were lined up outside of the High Times in Shasta Lake on Tuesday to get free cannabis products thanks to Weed for Warriors and local organizations. It’s estimated that 7% of all veterans will experience post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) sometime in their life. Weed for Warriors aims to help veterans through cannabis education and services. On Tuesday morning, they hosted an event at the High Times which provided 40 veterans with 2.5 ounces of cannabis products worth more than $100 free of charge. Store Manager Brody Wilbourn said this is a great opportunity for them to honor veterans as well as get them help. “We have a recourse for you and we also have organizations that are willing to guide you towards good entities that are designed to help just veterans,” Wilbourn said. The event was also sponsored by Pax and the local company Ember Valley which grows cannabis locally. Emerald Valley Employee Jeremy Samples said it meant a lot to him to be able to help local veterans, just like his father who is a navy veteran. “It really brings such joy to my life,” Samples said. “Seeing the tears shed, those smiling faces. Seeing the positive vibes that normally in the veteran community they don’t feel is something that is very important to not only me but Ember Valley.” They both said cannabis can help veterans with PTSD, anxiety and just overall mental health so it’s an honor for them to serve those who served our country. “I’ll see a lot of veterans come in and they’ll shed a tear thinking that ‘wow this is the most amazing thing that’s ever happened to us,’” Samples said. “For us to give back and give them that feeling, in turn for us is a wonderful feeling.” If you missed the event today, don’t worry both High Times and Emerald Valley said they are looking to do more of these events in the future. www.linktree.com/wfwproject
