Basit Javaid, MD, Chief, Abdominal Transplant Medicine I am a transplant nephrologist for the Adult Kidney Transplant program at Memorial Transplant Institute. For nearly 25 years, the focus of my efforts has been to facilitate kidney transplantation for patients with chronic and end stage kidney disease with excellent post-transplant outcomes. Living with chronic kidney disease is a constant challenge and daunting experience. For most patients, the best option is to receive a kidney transplant as early as possible. My team and I exhaust all options for patients to get them a transplant — preferably a living donor kidney transplant — and try to do so before they start dialysis. This affords them the best post-transplant outcomes with minimal to no compromise in longevity or quality of life. Our kidney transplant team is part of a multidisciplinary team at Memorial. This means we have access to every potential surgical and medical specialist, as well as support services and staff, all dedicated to assuring patient safety leading to and through the transplant process and beyond. Because of our expertise and outcomes, we are often sought out to care for patients with the most complex and challenging conditions.
