In our design agency, we used to rely on a team of illustrators and 3D artists because we refused to use free icon sets, stock photos, or clipart. Now, we generate about 80% of our graphics using AI tools. However, we have a strict set of guidelines for using these tools. There's a crucial point here: just because something can be created easily doesn't mean it will be good. The widespread use of these tools can lead to a flood of technically competent but creatively lacking outputs. It’s like cooking a meal in a microwave—it gets the job done, but it lacks the nuance and quality of a chef-prepared dish. Designers now face a new challenge: their technical skills alone are no longer unique. With AI making content creation easy for everyone, the real differentiator becomes creative judgment and taste. If designers rely only on their ability to use tools, they risk becoming redundant. The market will be flooded with AI-generated content that, while technically proficient, lacks the strategic and aesthetic qualities of good design.
