Sheffield Beach costal devastation beach walk

This is a beach walk from below Villa Royale and the "secret beach" to Christmas Bay. It shows the destruction caused by the torrential rains that hit Natal, South Africa on the 9th of April 2022. The North coast had numerous bridges damaged and washed away, roads, businesses and houses affected through mud slides. Although the death toll was overall substantial thankfully no lives were lost in the smaller Sheffield Beach community. A lot of residents stood up and helped to clear and secure roads, helped with individual water deliveries as the water supply was interrupted. Thanks to the outstanding work of councillor Privi Makhan, who organised and coordinated the relieve effort with SIZA Water and the municipality, Ward 22 got quickly set up with repairs, support and supplies. For days tankers delivered water to all corners of the ward and beyond while SIZA Water replaced and reconnected compromised pipes. The rain continued on and off for days after ...
