Walking Through Gurye — A Quiet Town at the Edge of Korea During this trip to Korea, we’ve been traveling almost entirely by public transportation. Today, with a camellia flower tucked into my hair, we walk straight through Gurye, a small rural town in South Jeolla Province. Along the way, we meet dogs, cows, quiet roads, and eventually a warm bowl of Sundaeguk — at Gurye’s most famous restaurant - 쌍둥이 식당. Gurye is often described as a town facing population decline. Beautiful, calm, and carefully kept — yet strikingly quiet. We wanted to see it for ourselves, at walking speed. We end the journey on the Mugunghwa train, hoping it won’t disappear anytime soon.
