I stopped trying to override my nervous system with positive thoughts. When I feel activated now, I slow down and speak to my body first not my mindset. I notice my breath. My shoulders. The tightness in my chest. And I let myself name what’s actually here without fixing it. Then I talk to my inner critic like I would to a scared child. I don’t argue with it. I don’t silence it. I say: I see you. I know you’re trying to protect me. You don’t have to work so hard right now. Something softens when I do that. From that softened place, inspiration doesn’t need forcing. It arrives quietly like a suggestion, not a command. Not “be better” or “try harder”, but “what feels supportive right now?” Sometimes the answer is rest. Sometimes movement. Sometimes doing nothing at all. That’s when my nervous system listens. Not when I push. Not when I perform calm. But when I create safety first and let clarity follow.
