While it may seem like a big task, taking the back frame of your Steelcase V2 Leap chair is actually a fairly straightforward process. This video will guide you start to finish to make sure the entire project goes as smooth as possible. Table of Contents 0:00 Introduction 0:10 Removing the Back 1:46 Reinstalling the Back 3:43 Checking the Lower-back Firmness Knob 4:13 Final Remarks Instructions on Replacing and Reinstalling the Back on a V2 Steelcase Leap Chair. Removing the Back 1. Start by removing the screws holding the frame to the base at the bottom of the frame. They are covered by a plastic cap that can be removed with a razor or small flathead screwdriver. Once the screws are exposed, use a Torx T-25 bit to remove them fully. 2. Next, remove the nuts and spacers from the two bolts towards the upper middle of the back frame. You will need a ½” socket, preferably a deepwell socket but a regular one will work also. 3. Once all these components are removed from your chair, the back frame is free and can be removed. Please note that the frame is still engaging the lower back firmness knob, so pull the frame away from the knob on removal to not cause unnecessary stress on that assembly. Replacing the Back 1. To replace the back, first make sure the back is positioned correctly on the chair. Start this by first aligning the lower-back firmness knob with the peg on the side of the back. There is a little slot meant for this peg inside the knob, the peg must be inside the slot to be engaged by the knob. There’s a good look at how this assembly works in the video. 2. After the peg is secured in the knob, make sure the other contact points are in place. These are the two lower screw holes and the two bolts running through the back. 3. We’ll start securing the frame with the lower screw holes. First place the white spacer ring in the hole, then replace the screw using the T-25 Torx bit again. Once the screws are back in, cover them up with the plastic caps. 4. Moving up to the bolts, first place the plastic spacers on the bolts, flat edge facing out. Then use the ½” socket wrench to tighten the nuts until firm. Checking the Lower-back Firmness Knob 1. To double check that the firmness knob is engaging properly, try loosening the knob and then pulling down on the back frame, it should pull down without too much trouble. Then tighten the knob and pull again, it should pull with more resistance. 2. If there is no change to the resistance of the pull, this means that knob peg isn’t inside the slot inside the knob. You’ll need to remove the back again and make sure the peg is placed correctly.
