Opioid overdose rates were 25% lower in the 13 states with legalized medical marijuana. “Does medical marijuana with its unique mechanism of pain control reduce a patient’s opioid need?” This is the question asked by Michael Ketteringham, MD, medical director of Consultation and Liaison in Staten Island University Hospital’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science.
