Part 6 of our road trip around the South Island, highlights the incredible Catlins. The Catlins comprises the area in the southeastern corner of the South Island of New Zealand. It straddles the boundary between the Otago and Southland regions and is home to some of the most majestic birds, animals and scenery you will see in all of NZ. There was some long driving stints but the quality of roads and scenery made travelling with our baby fairly care free. Just south of the super call town of Inverness we found the Bluff. Basically the southernmost tip of the South Island. Super rugged and super cool coastline. The 180 million year old petrified forest of Curio Bay is well worth enduring the freezing Antarctic winds for as well. Unfortunately we missed out on seeing the famous penguin residents The coastline of Nugget Point is simply awe inspiring, and video and photos do it no justice. The end of this leg of the tour is the very cool city of Dunedin. Our favourite big town of the trip. Thanks to it's Scottish heritage, it's architecture was second to none in NZ. It also claimed top spot on our "best fish and chips" list as well. Very funky vibe and very accommodating when your travelling with children. A visit to the Orokonui Ecosanctuary and a short trip up North to the Moeraki Boulders made this part of our trip one to remember!
