We took the kids camping at Point Reyes National Sea Shore. There are several lovely campgrounds, but this was the Coast Campground We parked at the Laguna Trailhead and hiked the coast trail through the woods and over the hills to follow along the beach. We saw lots of interesting wildlife and while the kids were hiking, they came up with a chant about the Purple Axolotl, then we came across a stream full of California Newts!
