After yesterday’s farce (the Cambourne to Cambridge public inquiry nearly collapsed at the first hurdle thanks to the Applicant’s blunder) the Inspectors have decided to “proceed as originally intended” – politely waving GCP and the County off the hook. So today we get the site visit. Rob, whose family has farmed Madingley Hill for generations, has lined the fields with 600 glowing orange stakes. From the ridge it looks less like careful planning and more like someone’s tried to land EasyJet on the hillside. As Rob put it: “On a map it’s just a tidy stroke of ink. On the ground you see what’s really at stake – fields, hedges, footpaths, and a family’s history in the soil.”
