Its the Preakness at Pimlico. President Eisenhowers son John and brother Milton are among the spectators at Marylands old horse park. FBI head J. Gallant Man, who came in second in the Kentucky Derby is sitting this one out. Iron Liege, Derby winner, is the favorite. 7. 19 31 CROWD 8. 22 36 START OF RACE Federal Hill is out of the gate first, but right behind him is Bold Ruler, second choice at 7 to 5. Iron Liege is fourth out, but this is a mile and 3-sixteenths run. At the finish line, $113,800 waits for the winners. Eddie Arcaro lets Bold Ruler run his own race and watch number five -- he overtakes Federal Hill for the lead.
