This is the FUTURE of VR! – Meta’s NEW Headsets Change Everything In this video, I break down Meta’s two brand-new prototype VR headsets revealed at SIGGRAPH 2025 — Tiramisu and Boba 3. We cover their insane specs, like 90 PPD clarity and 180° field of view, what makes them so impressive, and what this means for the future of VR, including upcoming Quest devices. If you’ve been wondering what comes after the Quest 3 or even Apple Vision Pro, Meta’s new prototypes — Tiramisu and Boba 3 — give us a real glimpse at what the next generation of VR and XR could look like. These aren’t leaks or patents — these are fully functional headsets being demoed live at SIGGRAPH 2025, and the specs are next-level. In this video, I break down both Tiramisu and Boba 3, what makes them so different from anything else on the market, and what these innovations could mean for Meta Quest 4, Quest Pro 2, and the future of the VR industry. Meta’s Reality Labs Research team has been working for over a decade to pass what they call the Visual Turing Test — a virtual experience so real that it becomes indistinguishable from the real world — and these headsets might just be the closest we’ve come. Tiramisu is all about visual fidelity. This headset delivers an unbelievable 90 PPD (pixels per degree) — that’s over 3.6x the resolution of the Quest 3 — along with dual micro-OLED panels, glass optics instead of plastic, and up to 1400 nits of brightness for true HDR. The contrast ratio is 3x that of current headsets, and thanks to DLSS 3 from NVIDIA, even the highest-end visuals can run in real time. It’s essentially a window into the future — but with a catch: the FOV is limited to 33° x 33° and it’s much bulkier than consumer headsets. Still, it might be the first headset that truly feels real. Boba 3, on the other hand, pushes the limits of immersion in a different way — with one of the widest fields of view ever in VR. Offering a massive 180° horizontal and 120° vertical FOV, Boba 3 brings us within striking distance of the human eye’s natural field of view. It does this while maintaining 4K x 4K resolution per eye, lightweight pancake lenses, and a form factor comparable to modern headsets. Meta says it achieves over 30 PPD, which is better than the Quest 3, and it’s all running on current mass-production displays — not future fantasy panels. These two prototypes show two different directions for the future of VR: Tiramisu aims for realism and clarity, while Boba 3 aims for immersion and presence. And neither of these are theoretical. Meta is letting people try them hands-on at SIGGRAPH, and that’s what makes this announcement so powerful. It’s not a PR stunt — it’s a real showcase of where things are going. What’s also exciting is what this could mean for Quest 4, Quest Pro 2, or future Meta Horizon OS headsets. While these research devices won’t ship directly to consumers, their innovations — from display tech to optics and field of view — could eventually shape the next mainstream headsets. Will we see a version of Boba 3’s wide FOV in a 2027 Quest Pro? Could Tiramisu’s 90 PPD clarity make its way into productivity-focused XR glasses in a few years? These are the big questions. I’ve talked about Meta’s leaked codenames before — Puffin, Phoenix, Loma, even Ligma (if you’ve been watching long enough 😉) — but this is the most concrete sign of what Meta is really developing behind closed doors. These headsets prove that Meta is still investing in cutting-edge VR R&D at a scale that few other companies can match. And while Apple, ByteDance (Pico), and others are catching up, Meta is clearly playing the long game. Let me know what you think: Which prototype impressed you more — the clarity of Tiramisu or the immersion of Boba 3? #Meta #MetaVR #RealityLabs #TiramisuVR #Boba3 #MetaTiramisu #MetaBoba3 #SIGGRAPH2025 #VRNews #NextGenVR #VRHeadset #VirtualReality #MixedReality #XR #MetaQuest4 #MetaQuestPro2 #MetaHorizonOS 0:00 - Intro 0:49 - What is Meta Tiramisu 3:03 - What is Meta Boba 3 5:08 - Why Meta Boba 3 and Tiramisu are so Important 6:50 - Quest 4 & Meta Quest Pro 2
