Indigenous Health is a growing field on the University of North Dakota. The school is the first in the world to create a Department of Indigenous Health, which oversees research and degrees, research centers, and the American Indian Collaborative Research Network (AICoRN). UND President Andy Armacost chatted with two members of the UND Department of Indigenous Health to learn more about the program and its growing research centers. Donald Warne, MD, MPH is the Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as well as the Director of the Indians Into Medicine (INMED) and Public Health Programs, and Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of North Dakota. Dr. Allison Kelliher, is the AICoRN director, is said to be the first Koyukon Athabascan physician. Her family caries a tradition of healing, and she is the only MD trained as a Tribal Doctor in Alaska’s health system. --- Founded in 1883, six years before the state itself was established, the University of North Dakota is a busy 521-acre campus, the state’s largest. We're an innovator in engineering, medicine, aviation and unmanned aircraft systems with colleges of business, arts, sciences, nursing, aerospace, education, engineering and medicine. Undergraduate and graduate degrees are offered online and on campus.
