July 2015: the last Abaco Barb died alone on a Bahamas island. These horses survived 500 years—Spanish shipwrecks, hurricanes, and isolation—but couldn't survive us. The Abaco Barb was the purest descendant of Columbus's Spanish war horses in the Americas. Living on Great Abaco Island in the Bahamas, these blue-eyed pinto horses carried irreplaceable genetics from the 15th and 16th centuries. In just 60 years, human interference—road construction, mass slaughter following a tragic accident, Hurricane Floyd's destruction, and pesticide poisoning—reduced them from 200 animals to complete extinction. This documentary examines the timeline of their collapse, the science behind their unique genetics, and the controversial cloning plan that might bring them back. A story of survival, negligence, and whether extinct species deserve a second chance. If you believe these rare breeds deserve to have their stories told, subscribe to RAISA to join our mission. : Abaco Barb, horse extinction, extinct horse breeds, Bahamas horses, wild horses, Spanish Colonial horses, Columbus horses, rare horse breeds, endangered animals, extinct animals 2015, horse history, equine genetics, Hurricane Floyd, conservation failure, extinct species, horse documentary, wildlife documentary, animal extinction, Nunki horse, cloning extinct animals, de-extinction, Caribbean wildlife, feral horses, genetic preservation, endangered horse breeds, RAISA, colonial Spanish horse, equine history, island horses, zoology #AbacoBarb #HorseHistory #ExtinctAnimals #WildlifeDocumentary #HorseExtinction Fair Use Disclaimer: This video is created for educational and documentary purposes under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
