Properly striping multi-pair tray cable is easier than you may think. For this task, we’re going to need three types of tools from our production facility, cable cutters, a round cable stripping tool, and a compact wire stripper. We’ll start by measuring our cable making sure to add an extra inch or two. It’s better to have your cable slightly too long rather than slightly too short. The high leverage cable cutter will cut through multi-pair tray cable with ease it eliminates damage to the internal conductors and cuts up to 4/0 AWG cable. Now using the round cable slit tool (VT45-144) well adjust the blade to the proper depth. Next, simply open the mouth of the tool and place it over the round cable. Make several full pass around the cable. Now you can pull the outer jacket off revealing the internal pairs. After removing the foil shield, we’ll use our compact wire stripper. This tool offers multiple crimp nests to handle a wide range of wire sizes. It also has a tapered plier nose that can be used to grip, twist, bend, or pull. Lastly, this tool offers a sharp cutting blade ideal for cutting solid and stranded wires as large as 10 gauge. After figuring out the correct amount of insulation to strip, we’ll use our strippers to cut the insulation, pulling it away from the main section to expose the internal conductors. All that is left is to repeat the process on the remaining conductors. And that’s it. With the proper tools, you can safely cut and strip multi-pair tray cables without damaging the internal conductors. You find the cable and the tools you’ve seen here at PacerGroup.net.
