Near-blizzard conditions are just part of the job for many railroaders around the country, and G&W's Marquette Rail in lower Michigan is no exception. With 8" of snow or more, plus blowing snow and drifting, the Jan 9th storm put up a fight against the Mighty Marquette Behind schedule and battling the conditions, MQT's Z151 heads south at Lamoreaux Drive in Comstock Park, from an elevated angle thanks to a retaining wall. The 3406 leads the way and busts the drift, but the trailing three units are also locking in the winter wonderland. South of Comstock Park, just short of CSX rails at Turner Street, MoW works to clear out the snow from the Van's Logistics switch, as the train crew works to spot their two loaded boxcars. The facing switch necessitates a locomotive consist breakup to spot the cars. After the crew wrapped up at Van's, they headed north lite power (with 12,000 hp no less) back up towards Sparta where the rest of their train remained. Hours later, with a new crew, the full train proceeded south to interchange with the CSX in their Wyoming Yard.
