#LexusGX550 #luxurySUV #SUVreview The all-new 2024 Lexus GX 550 has been redesigned from the ground up, “building on its 20 years in the sport-utility segment [and] making the case for the GX to be defined as a ‘sophisticated’ utility vehicle.” So says Toyota’s upscale brand. One might be excused for forgetting the GX even exists in the Lexus product lineup. It has been a niche product in our country for more than 20 years; Lexus Canada sold just 625 units last year. And, stretching the boundaries of longevity, it has not appreciably changed (other than the grille) since the 2010 model year, when the GX 470, first introduced in 2002, became the GX 460. What might be helpful is to know that the GX is the fancier Lexus version of the legendary Toyota Land Cruiser, a utility vehicle (forget the "sport" part) that came to North America in 1958, evolving over the years from the now-iconic two-door models like the 40 Series, with its fold-down front windshield, white roof, and rear jump seats; to the rugged 60 Series, which was last sold in Canada in 1989. The heavy-duty off-road-capable Land Cruiser is returning to the Canadian market this year, and so the Lexus GX, with the same GA-F body-on-frame platform, gets a long-overdue makeover.
