There is no doubt that preservation of the airway is a primary focus of Postural Restoration. A compromised airway will lead people to mouth breathe. Mouth breathing leads to improper use of the neck musculature for prolonged and eventually habitual patterned respiration. Any time the neck stays tight because of overactivity of anterior neck musculature: the hyoid muscles, SCMs, and scalenes for example, tension levels will go up. Sympathetic nervous system activity will go up. Relaxation and recovery from exercise, and life in general, will be compromised. Overactivity of the neck will also lead to spinal extension and lack of torso rotation, and atrophy of appendage (arm and leg) rhythmic movement. You'll become a collection of appendages instead of a fully functioning unit. It also leads to flared ribcages and anterior pelvis tilts, and problems with internal and external rotation of the legs and feet that don't supinate and pronate properly. On the other hand, if an airway is open and the neck doesn't need to be used for breathing, your chances of resolving stubborn pain is much better.
