Nestled in the enchanting Aiyura Valley of Eastern Highlands, Ukarumpa serves as the central hub for the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL), an international Christian community. Situated just 11 kilometers (7 miles) from Kainantu in the Aiyura Valley, Ukarumpa boasts a diverse population of both paid and volunteer staff who call this picturesque place home. With its establishment dating back to 1957, Ukarumpa currently houses around 600 residents and enjoys an elevation of approximately 1600 meters (5300 feet) above sea level. On a chilly, drizzly Friday, August 25, 2023, during my visit to the Aiyura Valley, I sent my drone soaring to capture the stunning vistas of Ukarumpa.
