Review of the Differences Between the Wingman and the Sidekick.

This is a review of the differences between the Leatherman Wingman and the Leatherman Sidekick. Looking at both tools side by side we can see that they look exactly the same – that is, they are both 3.8 inches long when closed, they both weight 7 ounces, and the primary blade length is 2.6 inches in length. Looking at features which are common to both tools, we can see that they both have: • The belt clip • Spring-action Needlenose Pliers • Spring-action Regular Pliers • Spring-action Wire Cutters • Wire Stripper • Can Opener • Bottle Opener • Small Ruler • Wood/metal file • A Small and a Medium Flathead Screwdriver • Along with a Philips Screwdriver Now let’s get into the differences between the two tools: • The first major difference is that instead of a short serrated blade, the Wingman has a package opener. This package opener is just a small blade which is useful for opening those difficult-to-open plastic package, or indeed any parcel that may come in the door. • Next, instead of the saw, it has scissors. The scissors themselves are spring-action and are sharp and you’ll find yourself using them for all sorts of jobs around your home or workshop. • The next difference is that there is no lanyard ring on the Wingman. That may be a problem for some people, but most people keep their Leathermans in their pocket, in a sheath or use the pocket clip. If you’re ordering the Wingman using Amazon, you’d probably be better off getting the sheath as well, because at the time of recording this video there was no extra charge. • Finally, there is no carabiner with the Wingman. For most people that will not be a problem, but in certain situations it will, so you need to take that into consideration when purchasing. So the way I see it is that when choosing between the Wingman and the Sidekick you are essentially choosing between having scissors or having a saw. To have both you’ll probably need to upgrade to something like the Leatherman Wave, which I will review in a later video. For me, I went with the Sidekick, which comes with the saw, but that was just my personal choice based on the types of jobs I do. If however you are into fishing or gardening, or something which requires you to keep scissors on your person, then the Wingman is not going to disappoint. Moving on now to the Leatherman guarantee. As with most Leatherman Multitools, it comes with a 25-year guarantee. There are conditions attached to that guarantee, so make sure to have a look over them, as some damage may not be covered. I’d like to take a moment now to talk about the build quality. Like almost all Leatherman tools, it well made and it’s going to last a lifetime if it’s looked after. I read a few comments where it’s been mentioned that the blade has broken, or other components have broken off. In my experience, these multitools are not for heavy-duty jobs, I’d even say they’re really for most medium duty jobs, but more in that range between light and medium. But again, if this tool is used correctly it will last a lifetime and will help you out countless times over that period.
