Nestled along the Thailand-Laos border, roughly 100km from Chiang Rai, lies the mountain gem of Phu Chi Duen. Be prepared to leave the digital world behind, as internet access is scarce here – perfect for a true digital detox! Arriving at 4pm, we hopped on a villager-driven 4x4 (the only way up!) for a 500 baht roundtrip journey to the Phu Chi Duen peak. Witnessing the sunset from there was pure magic. A breathtaking panorama unfolded before us, bathed in golden hues, with not another soul in sight. The serenity was palpable. The next morning, we embraced the 5am wake-up call for our Phu Chi Dao adventure. Headlamps were essential as we navigated the pre-dawn darkness, but the reward was worth every early morning shiver. Reaching the peak just as the sun painted the sky with vibrant colors was an unforgettable experience. While the natural beauty was undeniable, our trip was also marked by a somber reality. From the Phu Chi Duen peak, we could see 360 degree view of Laos, the Mekong River and Chiang Rai, a majestic sight. However, we also saw constant haze of crop burning, a practice that contributes significantly to air pollution, a major concern in Thai PM2.5 Crisis.
