First Time at Motorsport Ranch Cresson | Torrential Rain, Lightning & Slick Track Lessons | PCA HPDE

My first time driving at Motorsport Ranch Cresson during a PCA HPDE hosted by Porsche Club of America – Maverick Region — and Texas decided to make it memorable. We caught the last few dry minutes… and then the skies opened up. What followed was everything from steady rain to full-on torrential downpour. The only time we had to come off track was when lightning moved within five miles and they shut it down until it passed. It was still raining when we went back out — but at least the lightning was gone. Little ponds formed around parts of the circuit, and the surface became extremely slick. Even after the rain stopped and sections looked dry, grip was still minimal. It was a powerful reminder that wet track driving is about patience, smooth inputs, and respect for standing water. The last thing I wanted was to find thick mud… or hydroplane into a small pond. Driving the Racing Yellow Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 in these conditions turned into one of the best learning experiences I’ve had on track. Rain doesn’t just test the car — it tests the driver.
