In this video, we present our startup, ListenLab, detailing how we built the platform from scratch and showcasing its purpose in connecting psychology students with individuals seeking anonymous, compassionate mental health support. Nowadays, many psychology students lack real-world opportunities to apply their knowledge, listen effectively, and provide meaningful support. At the same time, the number of people experiencing mental health challenges is rising, and many seek free, non-judgmental spaces where they can be heard safely. Millions of young people turn to platforms like Reddit, Discord, TikTok, and anonymous forums to share their struggles. However, these spaces often pose risks: helpers are untrained, advice is inconsistent, harmful responses are common, safety protocols are absent, and anonymity can lead to trolling or insensitivity. Yet people continue to use them because they feel alone and have nowhere else to turn. Meanwhile, psychology programs worldwide are heavily theoretical. Students rarely get safe exposure to real emotional conversations, opportunities to practice empathy, structured supervision, reflective feedback, or CV-relevant hands-on experience. They want to help - but currently have no platform to practice effectively. ListenLab bridges this gap, offering a digital safe space where students can gain practical experience while providing structured, non-judgmental support to those who need it most.
