“She was paralysed from the neck down, her kids looking at me for an answer, I thought to myself, what am I supposed to tell them?” British-Australian Dr Mohammed Mustafa recalls the harrowing scenes after Israel resumed bombing Gaza ending the ceasefire agreement with Hamas earlier this week, killing hundreds of women and children in the process. At least 200 children have been killed in Gaza since Israel resumed its war on the enclave this week, Al Jazeera reported Unicef spokesperson in Gaza Rosalia Paulin saying. Health authorities in Gaza said more than 590 Palestinians have been killed since Tuesday and the death toll continues to rise as Israeli air attacks and ground assaults intensify. Speaking to MEE’s Mathilda Mallinson, Dr Mustafa describes unprecedented casualty numbers within such a short space of time. He also highlights how the renewed attack was at a time when most doctors had gone home or were asleep, leaving him and his colleagues outnumbered as Israeli strikes rained on different parts of the strip in the early hours of the morning.
